Interface Schema Guardrails

Automated checks that fail the build whenever an endpoint's response changes shape, so server releases stop breaking the apps and partners that rely on them.

Overview

What this service covers

Apps rarely fail because a server is offline; more often a field has silently become optional or null. Contract testing is designed to catch exactly that. Our suite validates every response against its schema, checks status codes and error formats, and tests the authorisation rules that keep one customer out of another's data. It runs on every pull request, so a breaking change shows up as a failed build rather than a complaint from a partner. Coverage extends to up to 40 endpoints, with negative cases and schema snapshots included.

Deliverables

What you receive

  • Schema-validated contract tests for up to 40 endpoints
  • Checks on status codes, error formats and headers for every endpoint
  • Authorisation tests confirming role limits and per-record access control
  • Negative tests for malformed requests and missing fields
  • Pipeline integration that reports exactly which contract failed
  • Stored schema snapshots so accidental changes show up in a diff
  • Guidance on adding tests when new endpoints are introduced
How it runs

The work in 4 stages

  1. Stage 1: Map the endpoints

We list every endpoint and record how each currently responds.

  2. Stage 2: Agree the contracts

Your engineers confirm intended behaviour and we highlight any gaps.

  3. Stage 3: Write the checks

Each endpoint gets tests, with bad-input and access-control cases alongside the normal ones.

  4. Stage 4: Wire into the build

The suite joins your pipeline and we prove it works with an intentional break.

Fit and inputs

Who it suits, and what we need from you

Ideal for

  • Teams whose shipped mobile app struggles to keep up with server changes
  • Products with an interface used by external partners
  • Back-end code nobody dares restructure because the impact is unknown

What we need from you

  • Access to the interface plus credentials for every user role
  • An API specification in machine-readable form if you have one, though we can work without it
  • An engineer who can decide intended behaviour when it is unclear

You share these through the brief on your order page after checkout.

Why it helps

What changes for your team

  • Breaking changes fail in the pipeline instead of on a user's phone
  • Restructuring code becomes safer with contracts enforced
  • Your released mobile app keeps working when the server changes
Questions

Questions about this service

Unit tests check the logic inside your code. Contract tests check what your API promises to every system that calls it.

No. We record how the API behaves today and confirm with you which behaviour is intended, which often reveals a few surprises.

Yes, using schema checks and assertions at query level. The approach and the price stay the same.

This is a remote service: nothing is shipped physically, and the work is delivered into systems you control. See delivery and handover and refunds and cancellation for the full terms.
